  1. Track and field has been trying to build its popularity for years, to varying degrees of success. The expansion of the Diamond League has definitely helped, but it’s still not a league structure in the traditional sense.

I don’t think the sport lends itself to such a structure, because it’s incumbent on athletes to decide when and where they’ll run, to prepare themselves for major championships. The last thing you want is all the top runners feeling like they have to travel somewhere to compete in an event that clashes with their personal training programmes.

  2. I’ve never seen a bigger collective group of idiots mad because he said world champs 🤣

  3. Every sport crowns world, continental, and national champions without letting every single team compete. The assumption (if you want to actually take this title seriously) is that the champion team could probably defeat (on average) any team not in the competition. I’d say this is a pretty safe assumption in the NBA, NFL, and NHL. It’s a more precarious assumption for MLB, although probably still accurate. I don’t think MLS has the gall to call their champions “world champions”. lol

  4. This feels like such a stupid fight. I understand the point that Noah Lyles was trying to make. However, as the NBA draws talent from around the world, and has the most consistently developed talent and highest level of play, it is the best basketball league in the world.

Noah’s a smart man and knows this too. He was simply trying to drum up some publicity.

  5. How are NBA players still butthurt about an accurate statement from Noah Lyles? I don’t even see how it’s derogatory to the NBA it’s just _true_.

  6. NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA teams that win their league’s championship *are* world champions. Because the best of the best players in the entire world play in those leagues.

  7. Noah Lyles is an obnoxious loudmouth and instigator. I hope he gets injured and can’t compete in 2028. He confirms all the ugly stereotypes about the USA. Right down to that farewell Olympics poster where he is on top with his tongue stuck out.

  8. Why don’t the top sprinters switch to a sport where they can earn more money, like football or baseball? Especially a guy like Lyles who wants to be famous?

  9. This whole discussion has been ridiculous since it started.

Most of us don’t really care about your school playground quarrel.
