  1. Would be interesting to see the equivalent for intrastate migration. Can’t imagine it would look too different

  2. all this tells me is Boomers are flocking to conservative southern states

    good riddance to bad company

  3. I wonder to what extent pollsters have taken this into account. I still get polling calls for a state I left in 2020.

  4. Since you have negative values in your legend, don’t use the dash for ranges. Using the word “to” instead would make it look cleaner instead of having “- -” for the bottom two colors.

  5. As someone living in MA looking elsewhere and knowing many others doing the same, this trend will continue. The average cost of a house in the Boston area is now at 930K….

I ain’t a trust fund guy nor is my wife. Our families don’t have money like a lot of these kids moving in where the parents give you a cool 75K for the down payment…

  6. Losing Pop — 8 blue (with DC), 4 red, 2 swing
    Highest Gaining — 2 blue, 9 red, 4 swing

Not proving a point just found the trend interesting

  7. Illinois confuses me, Chicago is a large city, beautiful, world class museums, relatively inexpensive, incredible summers, great food, swimmable beaches, large parks, clean, and centrally located with international airports, but the population just drains away year after year.

I find it hard to believe it’s the winters alone. I know it’s the republican boogeyman, but cities usually aren’t conservative anyways. I’m trying to move back there from Tokyo.

  8. The way things are re: CoL, if you’re an American who isn‘t a culture/education kind of person and is not that worked up politically, the value proposition of living in a blue state is zero or negative, unless perhaps family, weather and/or reproductive rights are also relevant factors for you.

(Some of you might think I’m euphemistically describing Republicans—I promise I’m not. Plenty of non-Republicans are too busy trying to survive to have developed political opinions, and dismissing them as stupid just because of that is extremely unhelpful.)

  9. I understand most of this map… except Delaware.

Why are people moving to Delaware? What don’t I know?

  10. Was talking to my Aunt this week about her possibly needing to go to Idaho to help her sisters family out and just not wanting to do it because of how ridiculous it’s gotten there. Apparently the urban sprawl is out of control and the wild fire smoke settles and it valleys and it’s just a smoggy construction hellscape.

  11. Cost of living in blue states out of control. And they snidely chide everyone else on how they should live. GTFOH
