How Russians have reacted to Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk region | BBC News

For nearly two weeks, Ukrainian forces have been seizing and occupying Russian territory in the Kursk region.

It marks the first time since World War Two that a foreign army has been fighting inside Russia – and for many Russian people, it is cause for alarm.

Repeating the official messaging of the state media, some Russians call for “peace on Russia’s terms”, while others expressed hope that Moscow and Kyiv will sit down at the negotiating table and work out a way to end the conflict.

But, while the Kremlin is still calling what its troops are doing in Ukraine a “special military operation”, ordinary Russians use one simple word to describe all of this: “war”.

  1. It's such a shame, the Russians are totally aware Putin is the cause of their problems and they can't dare admit it. The dictator has caused so many problems and can't be removed, how tragic.

  2. Those poor people. This is what it's like being subjugated and oppressed by a dictator. And this is what millions of Americans think they want.

  3. People should have pride in their country and in their military. What a shame Putin has put them in a position to choose. Listening to Russians walk the line of rationalization is like watching a bunch of professional tight rope walkers. They have a lot of experience in this.

  4. I look at those kids and the thought that comes into my head is that if they allow the egoistic madman to carry on running their country, in 10 years' time, it will be those kids who will have their eagerly anticipated future robbed from them, it will be them who'll be pushed to the front to become fodders for one man's ambition of conquest and expansion.

  5. Putin waging war on who are essentially his own people is a sickening murderous venture, and the sooner an intimate or intimate's realise that dispatching him is the only way to save Russia the better.

  6. Russia does not have good memories of the past. Napoleon, Hitler. Western civilization is in ruins. LGBTI, divorces, mistresses, artificial abortions, corruption, neo-paganism, broken families, exploitation of other nations. According to Russia, the Maidan was controlled by the USA and the West, it was supposed to attract Ukraine to NATO, so that NATO could militarily threaten the Russian land from the territory of Ukraine. The Russians intervened.

  7. I am not surprised 1 russia vs whole nato and non nato alleys.ukriane get state of the art weapons, nato trainers, nato and non nato allies intelligence, every assault planing by nato, nato undercover special forces fighting on front lines Ukraine get enough support what ever was possible on earth and with that much support Cuba can invade USA.what russia got almost alone allies threatened by west to impose sanctions so no allies openly can help but still russia is fighting I think Russians are way more brave compare to western.west only fight weakers and arm proxies against strongers.west can't fight alone by their own always from USA to Australia they fight together so when u are united u can't lose no matter how big liar and hypocrites you are.

  8. They remind me of Trump supporters. Trump wrecked the economy, drove up unemployment and the national debt – now his idiot supporters still think he is the one to vote for. People are incorrigibly stupid.

  9. If you knew that saying anything bad about Putin could land you in jail, then you too would say nice things about him when you were getting interviewed by the foreign press. Don't look at what they are saying, look at what they are doing. Are they fighting to the last trying to kick out an army that they have been told were run by Nazis? Or do many of them surrender immediately almost like they know they will be treated better by the Ukrainians as POWs than they were by the Russians when they were soldiers.

  10. Funny how only thing russians seem to remember from WW2 is fighting against germans. Conveniently forgetting what they did in Poland, Baltic countries and Finland.

  11. I find it so hard not to have prejudices against Russians. I keep trying to remind myself that there are good people there. I try to remember that they have been lied to their whole lives and do not know the reality of the world. But not being prejudice against Russians is very hard for me now. I feel bad for having such poor beliefs about them, I don't want to have hate inside me. But when I see them saying ignorant things like this it is really challenged me to remain a good person.

  12. the biggest tragedy of war is that the people of most countries are normal people like every country everywhere and don’t want war….. Always the power hungry vultures that create conflict and send the young men off to kill and be killed by young men from another country!!! For what ?????
