Had a conversation with the owner of this tree and she's convinced that it's over 100 years old. There is a silicone gun in the centre and some sort of clamp.

  2. Trees can happily live with a fire going on inside their hollowed out trunks. This is fine.

  3. You don’t seem to have had a real answer – it’s because the living vascular tissue (that transports water and other nutrients) is around the outside of the trunk, the inner wood is dead anyway. 

  4. Trees have been around for longer than the bacteria that breaks them down when they die. They’re extremely hardy unless I plant one, and then they die
