I'm not from the area but used to go up there quite a lot. Loved this place and haven't come across anything in the UK quite like it.

  1. When did it close down? I was in South Shields in 2008 when allegedly my room mate met kings of Leon at a waterpark in Newcastle.Β

  2. Went there as a kid a couple of times in the 90’s as a kid on holiday, thing I remember most is the corkscrew flue which has two flues side by side going round each other in a corkscrew motion. That and the really tall one, which you have to climb a lot of stairs to go on.

  3. r/abandonedporn would probably love this.

Never been to a waterpark in the UK before, unless you count Solihull, which I don’t.

  4. I remember being terrified of the Kamikaze, pretty much just a sheer vertical drop in a pitch black tube

  5. Live just across the river but never went. Or rather Mam & Dad thought it was just way too expensive

Probably would have taken our kids if it was still open

  6. When there with school. Cracked a rib when a lass didn’t wait to go down one of the big slides after me and smacked into me at the bottom. Otherwise was pretty fun day.

  7. Went once, being unable to swim. I just tried my best to be on a float going around the lazy river bit until some feral kids tipped me out of it just above one of the whirl jet things, and I almost drowned whilst they pissed themselves laughing and stole my float.

  8. Got thrown out with a mate when we were 10 years old for going down the slides together.

We had to wait outside until we got picked up hours later (no mobiles).

My mates parent complained and we got money back.

I also remember the urban myth of nails in the kamikaze slide 😳😳😳

  9. The last time I went as a teenager some girl ended up getting stabbed in the foot with her own locker key which you wore on a band around your ankle.

  10. I’ve been there a few times. The most memorable time was when I was on a school trip, one of the kids 2 years older decided to steal my friends rubber ring that he waited ages to get. Me being a fool decided to stand up to him. This resulted in me being punched repeatedly in the face and being nearly drowned in the lazy river. After I was let go, I walked back toward my friend, who had a face so shocked that it couldn’t mean something positive. I look down and notice a trail of blood across the lazy river, all coming from my lip. I nearly passed out, and my friend had to carry me out. Every other kid swimming about had the same look on my friends face as I went past them, and the trail of blood continued. The teachers were mortified, and I was rushed to the hospital. It turned out that the left side of my lip and cheek had been ripped apart, like someone had taken a knife and sliced through. I needed a lot of stitches, and thankfully, there are no visible scars, but the inside of my lip is forever swollen

  11. Every time i went there it was rumoured someone took a shit in the lazy river. They never caught me though.

  12. The one and only time I went there my mum got horrific food poisoning and my eyes started burning rendering me blind temporarily.

  13. Yep live down the road from it. It was always grotty and teenagers heavy petting in the cave bit. Once went to a wedding and met a couple from Yorkshire who were very excited when I said I was from north shields because “that’s where wet n wild is!”. Had no idea it was a place people would travel to 🀣

  14. Told my mum I was going to the cinema, was around 11 or 12, me and a friend jumped on the ferry and went to Wet N Wild for the day. Good times

  15. No stories, never went there sadly, though it looks amazing.

It immediately sent me back in time to the early 90s and the Flumes at the Commie (slides at the Edinburgh Royal Commonwealth Pool). Now all nostalgic and sentimental, scouring Google for photos (they got demolished in early 2000s).

  16. We took the german exchange kids when I was at school. Remember going down one of the tube rides but we came out of the tube and got bruised up by the water! My mate actually came down after me bleeding, and they had to shut the slide down for a bit. The twisters were awesome as a teenager! I have fond memories. You had to be in shape to walk all over this place without slipping.

  17. Ahhh I remember the day my mate Richie dumped a bag of sprouts in the jacuzzis that were next to the lazy river. He was a strange boy

  18. Heard a vicious rumour before it opened back in the day… a rumour we all believed because we were young kids. πŸ˜‚

The rumour was that some local crimimals threatened to stick nails in the slides overnight unless they got free passes and food for all of their family members.

    Everyone fell for that.

Oh and also, one of my exes had her first “fingering” on the lazy river – good times πŸ˜‚

  19. A mate of mine threw up in the lazy river after stuffing his face on shit chips and panda pop then immediately going on the kamikaze. I don’t think anyone even bothered to clean it up, probably floated round there until the day it closed.

  20. I remember going on school trips there, a rumour that a kid broke his leg on the kamikaze on one trip, which quickly escalated to decapitation.

Found a video of when it was open 7 years ago. https://youtu.be/u0Uhe9MCxTk

  21. Went down that twister slide with my big fat scout leader one time (there are two slides just for clarity). I made it to the bottom half drowned and waited.. waited… He only got fucking stuck for about 30 seconds! That thing was a deathtrap I swear.

Also used to love the dark dinghy slide where you hit the targets etc. Great times there!

  22. When my mates and I were sixteen we decided to go for a laugh. Two of us went on the Black Hole slide (double dinghy ride) and I kicked my mate off the dingy. His swimming shorts ripped off on a handle and he had to walk all the way back to the changing rooms bollocks naked. Felt bad. Lifeguards pissing themselves laughing though. Genuinely surprised he didn’t end up on a list.

  23. Wish I had a more interesting memory than the water being full of shit loads of plasters, one of which was mine.

Loads of good memories though, mainly wholesome so I’ll keep them out of this sub.

Best pool related memory is a place, I think, near Monkseaton where they had a big raised diving pool with a window in the side so you could see people when they landed.

Girl I fancied flashed her tits into it when I was 15. Did unforgivable things in the changing room.

  24. I had no idea it was closed. That’s sad.

I remember it had a ride which had multiple slides and pools. 9 year old me and my friends thought we were massive rebels by going down those short slides backwards, then the lifeguard blew a whistle at us and we were terrified, so we never did anything so rebellious again.

At 17, after a trip there, my friend and I learnt that the hard way that you should get petrol before you leave Newcastle, because we found ourselves stranded on the A69.
