no such thing as an overrated city player for me, Leroy Sane. I think as teams have sat deeper and deeper and we’ve prioritized safety in possession on the wings, Sane’s playstyle, which requires space to run into, has been viewed with rose-tinted glasses. I am not sure he would have featured much in the teams 2020-now.
Sterling
Zinchenko
I’m gonna say Alvarez. I think his two seasons will be viewed very fondly but outside of his purple patch to begin last season, he was never better than any of our actual starters. Still a great player but the shouts for him to start over Haaland were crazy
Wilfried Bony
Jovetic
Fabian Delph or mangala
Mendy
Ederson
Going to do a hot take here and say Ederson. Love him and he is a great keeper, but I don’t think he is in the “top keeper in the world” conversation like many people seem to think he is. He is brilliant with the ball at his feet but his shot stopping could definitely be improved
Doku, no point beating the player and then fluffing the cross.
I swear no one here knows what overrated means
This may be unpopular but I think it’s Gabby. He scored 58 goals in 159 games, most of which were high skill, flashy goals.
BUT he also screwed up a lot, lost his temper on the field, and lost a lot of favor with Pep during a period where he was the only striker
If it’s internal it’s not ederson but if it’s world wide it can be ederson .
Balotelli never moved the needle for me.
Stephen Ireland
It’s Jesus
When he was here I would say Zinchenko
Negredo. Half-season wonder that took minutes from Džeko and prime Balo. (Still love him…BEAST)
Ferran Torres. I never really saw it with him
Jack Grealish. I don’t dislike him, but he has a ton of meh performances then has one good game (goal or an assist) then he gets hyped up as being a great winger. I don’t get it
JG
Jack Grealish
Roque Santa Cruz lol I mean I was so so SO stoked when we signed him and it was just for shit
John Guidetti was probably most hyped.
Roque Santa Cruz
Marlos Moreno was supposedly ‘The Next Neymar’
Ferran Torres
Mangala
I hate to say it but Sane?
Not because he isn’t good, but because he’s the definition of overrated by City fans. We still think the world of him and act like he would be our own Vinicius were he to return.
He might’ve turned out better if he had stayed under Pep but he’s inconsistent and patchy. World class on his day but you don’t know how many of those days you’ll get.
He had two good seasons really? And I too think fondly of those titles and watching Sane. But I think over time the view of him has gotten progressively more rose-tinted.
