This ist just dreadful for China. Holy moly. The Corona pandemic and with their draconian lockdowns the cap really shot themselves in the foot.
I’m shocked that China is a) the absolute worst, and b) is worse than Russia!
Peronsally, I don’t feel like like a total listing is the most interesting. Montenagro, Kosovo and Iraq don’t have much in common. What I would love to see is a comparison of more similar countries. For example, are all of the G20 countries low receivers of FDI? of the World Bank’s Least Developed Countries list, which ones are the outlayers? Of course, this is more data than could fit in one graph, but I’d still find these comparisons interesting.
Chinese don’t need FDI anymore. They have plenty of money so they’re investing abroad.
Gotta remember that the Chinese GDP is likely inflated, which makes this data less bad than it seems for them, but yeah the days of FDI into china are pretty much done now, they can finance themselves anyway and foreign companies are probably a bit suspicious at this point because somehow, the vast majority of companies that invest there don’t do very well in the end
