Ukraine used drones to attack an airbase in Russia’s Volgograd region, in an escalation of its long-range strike campaign.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Ukraine said the strike targeted fuel depots and glide bombs, which Russia has made a key weapon in its recent offensives to poke holes in Ukrainian defenses.

Russian authorities in Volgograd said a drone crash had sparked a fire at a military airbase in the town of Marinovka.

Ukraine relies on explosive domestically produced drones to strike deep into Russia because it has few long-range missiles of its own and is barred by the United States and other partners from using their long-range missiles inside Russia. In recent weeks, Ukraine has launched a series of strikes against Russian air defenses, fuel and ammunition depots, and aircraft.

At the same time, Ukraine is calling on the United States to give itself a free hand by allowing the use of American-made missiles, known as ATACMS, in Russia.

“Our Ukrainian drones work exactly as they should. But there are things that cannot be done with drones. Unfortunately. We need other weapons – missiles,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

The intensified drone campaign in Ukraine comes as Kyiv’s forces seek to consolidate control over a swathe of Russian territory they seized during a lightning invasion of the Kursk region. Zelensky said Russia’s muted response to the Kursk incursion showed that Western fears of escalation were exaggerated.

“If our partners lifted all current restrictions on the use of weapons on Russian territory, we would not need to physically enter, in particular, the Kursk region to protect our Ukrainian citizens in border settlements and eliminate Russia’s potential for aggression. Any further delay on the part of our partners in long-range weapons de facto becomes, perhaps, the most effective support for Russia’s offensive potential,” Zelensky said.

The Biden administration eased restrictions on the use of American weapons after Russia invaded the northern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv again in May, allowing Kyiv to fire artillery and short-range missiles from Himars launchers at command posts, weapons depots, and other targets across the border. But the policy did not give Ukraine permission to use long-range ATACMS missiles inside Russia.

  1. Ukraine is playing a stupid game with Russia.. It's called mess around and find out..
Russia could have already laid waste to Ukraine.. The only reason Ukraine is still around is because of all the mercs hired to do the job for them, and the ammo and weapons other nations gave… This would have been over long ago had these nations not stuck their noses in it!
Ukraine could potentially be in complete peace right now, but these national leaders gotta keep the money laundering going so the war will continue…

  2. 5:01 That's not Marinovka, Volgograd. Also, it seems Volgograd is not where Ukraine is operating but Belgorod, where there's another Marinovka. This report is dubious.

  3. I'm not sure the world realised just how gullible and deluded Russian people really are. To trust and believe someone like Putin show them as moronic.
Let's not forget, there are the even the worst of the worst in Russia who idolise Stalin – need I say more.

  4. It's hard to understand how Putin thinks, surely by now he must see the west will only increase their support to Ukraine and help them even more. It's become a suicide mission now we all watch in slow motion.

  5. Mathias Rust (born 1 June 1968)[1] is a German aviator known for his flight that ended with a landing near Red Square in Moscow on 28 May 1987. Then a teenage amateur pilot, he flew from Helsinki, Finland, to Moscow, without authorization. According to Russian claims[2][3] he was tracked several times by Soviet Air Defence Forces and civilian air traffic controllers, as well as Soviet Air Force interceptor aircraft. The Soviet fighters did not receive permission to shoot him down, and his aeroplane was mistaken for a friendly aircraft several times. Also, 28 May 1987 was Border Guards Day, leaving many guards distracted.[4] He landed on Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, next to Red Square near the Kremlin in the capital of the USSR.

  6. All wars are not pointless, but this invasion of Ukraine in the name of Putin is absolutely absurd.Wake up Russia before you are reduced to another pathetic victim of following a Madman like Hitler

  7. So it’s ok for Russia to use North Korea & Iran but Ukraine still has restrictions from UK, America & other western nations……. Something about that really stinks.

  8. Yes, Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2014. This invasion began with the annexation of Crimea, a peninsula that was part of Ukraine. Following the annexation of Crimea, Russia supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine, leading to conflict in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, known as the Donbas.

In February 2022, Russia escalated the conflict by launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, targeting major cities and attempting to seize control of large portions of the country. This ongoing conflict has drawn significant international attention and led to widespread condemnation of Russia's actions.

  9. America leadership continues to block Ukraine progress and helps the communist. Ukraine needs to keep pushing forward and expose the United States dump weapons restrictions on Ukraine that helps the communist.

  10. Putin doesn't realise that all of the Ukraine military machines he keeps blowing up in smoke, and all of the Ukraine drones he keeps shooting down, are all being paid for with the interests of his frozen assets.😳
