If someone’s going to cannibalise your sales, it may as well be you.
Makes sense, before iPhones and cellphones in general, there was cd and cassette players (pure nostalgia!). As digital music, mp3/4 came into the market, that was the “new thing” was the media player, such as Zune, Walkman players, then Apple introduced the iPod line up.
Then when the iPhones became more affordable and Apple integrated music with cellphones and a place to have and “all-in-one device, there was no need to have two separate devices.
Would like to see a total line as well or have this as a stacked area chart.
What’s the point if this comparison? Ipods are a tiny subset of functionality of an iPhone?
I still use an iPod and have never had an iPhone. I listen to a lot of podcasts on the iPod – but there is only a skip back 15 seconds button and no way to skip forward which would be nice to skip over ads. Do iPhones have a skip ahead button when listening to podcasts?
I knew a guy in Buenos Aires, who was better at communicating on his iPod than most people on their iPhone.
He knew all the cafes with wifi so his iPod would automatically hook up on his walking commute route.
Not pictured: millions of speakers with iPod docks that now collect dust on thrift store shelves
What a weird time in history. The ipod disappeared as quickly as it arrived, and even though it was only around for a decade or so, an entire generations upbringing revolved around ipods. In the grand scheme of modern history, has there ever been another product/invention that followed the same trajectory?
I guess there’s not enough data since 2017.
P.s, I’ll add iPads also.
I still love my iPod shuffle, which is a great way to save my phone battery while traveling. I really wish they’d bring them back!
I still have mine. Not sure which gen, but it was the first with color video. I bought it in May/June of 2005
