I enjoy watching Simon Reeve's programs on BBC. I am curious about the scarf I often see him wearing (like in the pictures I have included). It looks like it may be a cultural scarf from one of his travels. Does anyone know where it is from?

Shermagh. I’ve still got my dad’s old one from when he was in the army.
What a lovely face
I remember getting one of those on holiday in Tunisia in the early nineties. Was damn useful for the dust which blew around (it was quite windy).
Might not want to wear it given the current climate
Yep its often seen as a signal of support for Pakestine. Yasser Arafat wore one.
This guy is a hero of mine. He actually talks about how his scarf has become an unplanned association people make with him during his speaking tour. Well worth going to if you’re a fan of his work. Fascinating guy.
This might get a bit out of r/CasualUK’s comfortable-zone quickly.
It looks like this one – [https://www.militarykit.com/products/mfh-shemagh-head-scarf-sand-black](https://www.militarykit.com/products/mfh-shemagh-head-scarf-sand-black)

Does anyone else remember when these were really popular in the UK as “desert scarves” in the noughties?
“The gap year”
Yeah,,,,,,,,,,,,, oh I’m sorry. Something about a scarf? Was questioning my heterosexuality there for a sec.
I remember when these were in fashion, with the Kanye west glasses, late 2000s if I’m right
Slightly off topic but we’ve begun watching his programs and he is a good watch
Really looks like the Sudra too

I think they call it the “elder emo” now
I’m not sure but I hope it’s not the thing that turns him into a moaning bastard about every place he visits.
I love Simon Reeve. Having seen him speak live a few times my crush has only escalated.
I have several of these! Shemagh is the general nritish term used around the world. I bought a couple in ona for when i was in the desert and on the mountains. I always take one when in out and about oncthe hills. Also good to keep insects off your face and neck. Great warmth when needed, great to keep the sun off, great for a dust mask, also have a ton of other uses. Sling, tourniquet, gear hammock for wild camping. Shape into a hat, use as a towel.
Simón Reeve is a stone cold fox.
