[Toni Juanmarti] Barça want to extend Marc Bernal’s contract till 2029 in the coming weeks, despite him recently renewing until 2026. The club wants to convey their support and confidence to the youngster.
This is a nice thing to do, but it doesn’t seem like a good commercial move. I get wanting to show solidarity, but at least see if the player manages to recover first… Plenty of time to extend if and when he makes it back into the team.
As long as we don’t renew him with exorbitant salaries I don’t see an issue here.
Obviously his unfortunate injury should be taken into account but hopefully he will come back without any physical setbacks.
Good move. His position is where one gets least affected by ACLs, he was anyhow not dependent on pace. Barca pivot is more about mental game and positioning.
Medical science has improved a lot, ACLs being career ending is of old times, especially for positions like DMs, GKs, CMs, etc.
