That’s exactly what it is. There’s a lot about this year.
At first glance, I thought it’d been chopped in half.
I spotted the first one of these in my life about 2 weeks ago in the Car Park at Polzeath. He was on my car door sill so I knocked him to the floor where we all gathered to observe (and do the Google search). I commented that I hope it didn’t get crushed. Within 5 minutes I’d forgotten my warning, gone to the car to get something, then promptly stood on it. I’m pleased to hear they’re in abundance this year.
Wow, what a majestic visitor!Maybe it was looking for some office supplies, who knows?
Good find! Always great to see an Elephant Hawk Moth. A few years ago, I was lucky to see an Eyed Hawk Moth, which is very similar in size but has false eyes on it’s wings like a Peacock Butterfly does. First and so far only time seeing one. Brilliant sighting.
Genuinely thought that was a decapitated snake head for a couple seconds. Nature is wild!
Love how they named it after 2 different animals!
“Hey Steve what shall we call this Caterpillar?”
“Dunno, mate. Elephant Hawk Moth?”
Pretty little thing, but ultimately I can’t abide by a creature having a personality crisis.
Went into my garden a couple weekends ago and saw one of these, kept an eye on him while I had a ciggy. Then I walk over to the ashtray and notice 3 more on the floor. After a good look around I counted around 10 of these all on my patio. No idea why but pretty cool
