When a chinese tank will come fight us, it will turn around sad because it cannot use a ladder in Germany, so we don’t need to. Simple logic honestly.
We were too powerful to be afraid of our peasant neighbors
I’ve visited Burg Eltz (first picture) last month, it’s indeed magnificent.
It’s not a Schloss though, it’s a burg (as the name suggests). Nymphenburg in München and the famous Neuschwanstein in southern Bayern are examples of schloss. Difference being that the former is usually more ancient (medieval) and built with the purpose of defense, while the latter is what we can call a palace, which can take inspiration from old castle but is mostly residential in scope.
even as a nordick with barely any castles at all I’m with Pierre on this, if you’re gonna build something big. make it pretty too.
The fr*nch call THAT a castle? 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
With both of them you’re fucked. Is the magic of cadtles made when you didnt had to actually use them to defend you.
Their main purpose today is remaining as inaccessible to tourists as possible.
The long hikes filter out yanks and medieval nerds alike, keeping our heritage free of such filth – so only european hikers and asians with a pic/s stat of at least 3,7 make it there.
The German language makes a clear distinction between a Burg and a Schloss. A Burg was built primarily as a defensive structure with living quarters being an afterthought. Burg Eltz (the one in the pictures) being a prime example. A Schloss is more of a palace sometimes inspired by medieval castles but built primarily as a residence. Neuschwanstein would be an example for that. Looks cool but apart from the terrain it would be a pain to defend.
I have a complaint. Moving to Germany some Hans “friends” said ‘let’s go visit a castle’. 9/10 times it’s just a fuckin fancy house with a big garden with 0 defensive capabilities (in England we call that a palace). Disgusting. I can’t hide my disappointment seeing no turrets, walls and a keep.
As a fellow castle-enjoyer, all I have to say is that this comparison is totally missing some key points.
You know Victorians was not a thing in France. During that time in France they had one monarchy, one empire and two republics.
“The victorians” are we really using british eras here?

Bold post from an italian.
We remember the battle of the Alps and your “attacks” our defensives structures
I thought all of Hans’s castles had been bombed by the Allies
You fight to defend your land. I fight to conquer other lands. We are not the same.

German castles are more like fancy hunting lodges. Give me a propa English castle any day.
That’s a very eloquent thief, I must say.
Don’t give the romanians any ideas
Why did the germans keep building wannabe Versailles then
No ladder can reach that far?
Even the romans had a bigger ladder
