What’s the deal with these French flags I see everywhere?

I have a lot of questions about these flags.

Like why does it cut off halfway through the A in France? What are the two black diamonds for and what does it say underneath them? Why is the line between the white and the red a flame and why is it a white flame over the red background instead of a red flame over the white background? I don’t think the blue is the correct shade either.

I’ve been seeing these everywhere while watching the Olympics and Paralympics and they kinda bug me. I understand if they’re some cheap freebie giveaway, or if it has special meaning, but who thought that those looked good? Why don’t they use the regular French flag?

  1. Seems to be half this design above for the red part, the black “diamonds” are the logo of the french team (that rooster head in black with the olympics and paralympics logo underneath), for the FRA cut it would just be a design choice. I don’t hate them, they make a cohesive visual, I guess they come for free. Not using the normal one makes for a souvenir I guess

  2. I had seats in the fanzone at the Olympics at a Athletics session, can confirm they were free for every seat in that section.

  3. If I recall, They had a “supporter” or “fan zone” in Stade de France with these flags distributed for some of the seats.

  4. Those were put on “Carré des Supporters” seats (fanzone) for all people that chose those tickets (same price for the same category as normal seats).

A couple of people were also leading the cheering of the audience, preparing the public before french athlète appearances, etc. And then huge cardboard heads of french athletes also.

I attended a couple of competitions in those (volleyball and para judo) : great ambiance and good freebies for the kids !
