US Department of Defense estimates Russian casualties are between 462,000 and 728,000
September 8, 2024
This article is a couple months old but I thought it was interesting the the US DoD estimates that Russia has lost more soldiers than their entire invading force. Some interesting graphs in this article as well.
Also noteworthy, this info was leaked and the US hasn’t spoken about the number of Russian casualties since the news came out.
I’m curious how this compares with WW2 numbers in terms of a percentage of the population.
Yes, USSR’s death toll was in the millions. Yes, Russia’s population was smaller than it is today. BUT, those millions of casualties were absorbed by the whole USSR, especially including SSR Ukraine.
I doubt even Russia knows how many of its “army” are casualties.
Imagine numbers due to desertion, disease, suicide, infighting, friendly fire, etc
This is autogenocide at this point
And extra 50% is quite the margin
Our pentagon can’t account for money, but hey, that’s better than not being able to account for your own soldiers
Difficult to believe that actual Russian troop deaths are about the same as the USA lost in WW2.
U.S. Military Deaths by War
World War I: 116,516. World War II: 405,399. Korean War: 36,574. Vietnam War: 58,220. Persian Gulf War: 382. Iraq-Related Operations: 4,605. Afghanistan-Related Operations: 2,459
Is this dead or fully not able to fight ( coma or something)
Again more sets of nonsense figures. They have based these on claims of death and records of payments. As russian hardly ever pays these out its a really low figure, if they use the cemetery data as they have in some calculations again its nonsense as Russia does everything in its power not to reclaim bodies and again fails then to bury the dead unless they have no choice such as they died in a hospital. Looking at the war videos we see thousands of rotting russians left on the soil. They dont even count the numerous killed usually 3 or 4 in each destroyed vehicle.
LOL I guess I’m fine with the UA / minusrus numbers +- 100k
Between 20.4 and 32.1 Afganistans (Kia/Wia 2001-2022)
Between 12.7 and 19.9 Iraqs (Kia/Wia 2003-2021)
Maybe. If russia keeps records like it fights wars, who can even guess what their casualties are.
There’s no f* way Russia can recover from this, demographically speaking.
Couple this with the massive exodus before the mobilizations (most of them with an education aren’t coming back), and we are talking a male-killoff like the one endured by Paraguay during the Paraguayan War (1864 to 1870)
that’s a lot of dudes
I can’t fathom how a country can be approaching 1 million casualties and yet the average person in Moscow can go about there day oblivious to the war going on. That is like something out of a horror movie from the 70s, like Logan’s run or something where your neighbors just disappear one day.
Half of those are probably still on the ground in Ukraine… making it near impossible…

In American Wars that is the equivalent of:
Between 2.2 and 3.4 Vietnams (Kia/Wia 1965-1972)
Between 20.4 and 32.1 Afganistans (Kia/Wia 2001-2022)
