The destination that surprised me the most is Sicily, as it has almost as many searches as Florence, which was not the case last year.

This chart shows the places in Italy that Canadians searched for the most in 2024. The destinations are split into three groups: Very Popular, Popular, and Niche.
**Very Popular:**
* Rome is at the top with 25,290 searches, followed by the Vatican with 21,440. These are the most famous spots people want to visit.
**Popular:**
* Pompeii, Venice, Florence, and Sicily are in this group, with searches from 8,420 to 6,870. These places are still well-liked, but not as much as Rome or the Vatican.
**Niche:**
* Milan, Naples, Pisa, and Amalfi have fewer searches, ranging from 2,400 to 940. These are smaller or more specific places, but some people are still interested.
**Design Choices:** For this design, I went for a split bar chart to differentiate the popularity tiers visually. I used three colors to show how popular the places are: green for Very Popular, white for Popular, and red for Niche. This way, we can easily compare how many searches each destination got.
What’s the units here, did 40 million canadians collectively search 2400 times for Milan?
The two least interesting places in Italy.
Sorry, not sorry.
High-intent?
Milan being that low is a crime
Meanwhile I skipped all those and went to Trieste
Is it beautiful presentation of data if I can’t tell what is being presented? What is a “high intent destination search”?
Saw Pisa last year; it was waaaay more impressive in-person than I expected. very pretty area.
(okay actually saw Naples, Sicily, Florence, Venice, *and* Pompeii, all of which were great. guess I felt the need to call out Pisa though because it’s so far on the Niche side lol)
Vatican is not in Italy. It is an independent state. Title should be: for the Italian peninsula.
