  1. I wonder if the Queen’s more delicate features were just lost in the casting process. Prince Phillips, to me, is more true to life more due to his stance and bearing and overall shape of his head and nose. The Queen’s face just looks….lost to me.

  2. How did the sculptor manage to capture Prince Phillip so well while getting Queen Elizabeth so wrong? He obviously has the capacity to cast accurate likenesses.

  3. Why is that old statues in the classical style are so great, but alllll the modern ones of QE2 make her look like a dumpy grandma? They could do a statue of her at any age, it doesn’t matter but just make her look classical, regal, and strong. Being a grandma was an important part of her life, but that’s not why she gets a statue.

  4. The late Queen statue’s shoulders and chest are formed like a man’s. The “breasts” are placed wrong, more like where a body builder would have chest muscles. It’s even more obvious when you look at it from further away. I find it ridiculous

  5. Well, first of all it doesn’t look anything like them. It’s a little bit of a cartoonish

  6. lol capturing her in her rain bonnet is dirty work. My grandmother wore one exactly the same and she’d be furious.

The face is also giving buzz lightyear.

  7. They sort of remind me of that statue an artist made of Lucille Ball, but they had it redone because it didn’t look like her at all….

  8. Ooof I want to feel bad for the artist receiving all this criticism, but he had to know, right? I mean, he has eyes.

The fact that this statue was commissioned in Northern Ireland by a local artist makes me wonder if the artist is actually in favor of reunification and if this was a subtle message.

  9. Woof. I feel like bronze is a particularly tough medium for something like this and wow it really did not work out here.

  10. These are awful, look nothing like HLMTQ or Philip. Diana’s statue is awful as well, makes her look like a robot of rectangles. I don’t understand these pieces at all.

  11. All I can see when I look at Philip’s statue is George HW (aka “Dad”) Bush back when he was VP. I still prefer the ones at Royal Albert Hall.

  12. reddit, please do me a favor: if anyone ever does a statue of me, don’t let them do it in bronze. I feel like bronze rarely looks great for these sculptures.

  13. I cannot count the number of similar articles I’ve seen over the decades when statues are put up. Particularly bronze statues. It’s apparently particularly difficult to get the faces right.

I actually think this isn’t bad compared to many of the others I’ve seen stories about. Everything but the faces is pretty good.

If people want to complain about this, they really need to research the artist and their abilities before handing over the money. Seems like very few can around today can really do a reasonable likeness in bronze.
