It’s interesting that there’s a dip in the 50’s-70’s that put the age at first marriage significantly below what it was in the decades before WWII. Are there any theories about what caused that dip?
I got married at 29… I don’t think I would have been emotionally mature enough to get married any earlier than that.
The other line probably needs to be widepread introduction of the pill
You can see how much Thacher fucked up prospects for young people. Or society suddenly became a lot less religious. But I’d bet the average buying power started shrinking when the marriage age started rising
That “England and Wales” subhead needs to be a lot more bold…
Being in the best decades of financial stability will do that for a population.
We were 22 and 20 in 1980. WAY below the curve and still plugging along at 44+ years!
