Putin is ‘struggling’ in Ukraine and has no intention of escalating

“Russia and Putin don’t have any interest in fighting Nato.”

Russia is already “struggling” to hold their ground in Ukraine and to expel Ukrainian forces from their own territory, says professor of international politics at Aberystwyth University Dr Jenny Mathers.

  1. In what way is he struggling his rate of territorial gains recently have been accelerating not slowing and not blitzkreig but it is basically relentless in 2024.
Where is the good news for Ukraine apart from longer range missiles. Germany for example tank donation 88 tanks in 2023 and 77 in 2024 and aid to Ukraine to be 50% lower in 2025.
Russia may struggle in 2025 bit so far the 2014 Southern frozen front continues to instead advance slowly westwards.
I feel sorry for Ukraine news wise it is not so good at the moment but this war is simply not a sprint or a marathon but more of a longer term event.
Kursk was too big and involved too much of best equipment and better combat units. I think the war has turned in Russia's favour long term and so Kursk is going as predicted as is the South but new missiles may buy time.

  2. If President Joe Biden wants Ukraine to win, then lift all restrictions on using U.S.-provided long-range missiles. Ukraine can force Putin to end the war if we, the West, untie its hands.

  3. So now we can put additional pressure on Lootin Putin by offering a bounty, like $1B to the person or group that can deliver Putin ALIVE to The Hague?? Or a deal like $5B to whomever delivers first: intact operational Russian Nuclear sub or live Putin at Hague; second place, $500M. ???
Either way builds pressure, make Putin think he is perhaps losing power, cant trust anyone, sleepless nights…

  4. The West is waiting for Putin to slip up, because all of us in America want to get all of Allies ready to meet together in Ukraine. Because America wants to go to war with Russia.

  5. loss of Western satellites would impede not just the ability to guide the Ukrainian missiles but we would lose the early warning systems that detect Russian missile launches. The Russians can switch off our ability to use missiles with the push of a button if they don't mind hearing us whine about it and come out with nuclear threats

  6. Dumbest thing in the world is thinking Putin is bluffing or afraid, he is nether. He and Russia have shown great restraint, all who think war hurts only other people will see when it comes to your house.

  7. Russia has reduced Ukraine's power grid to seventy percent of capacity. Any time Russia wants to reduce Ukraine's power grid to zero, it can do so. Russia has powerful and highly accurate missiles that Ukraine cannot defend against. Ukraine is losing ground all along the line of contact in the east. It is also being routed in Kursk. Ukraine wants to hit Russia with long range missiles because it is losing because it is desperate. It is NOT Russia that is having difficulty "holding its ground. " It is Ukraine. This woman is divorced from reality.

  8. Russia is wiping the floor with Ukraine, and now the west who started this war are in full blown panic mode.
The big bullies who started this war America, and their lap dogs the UK and EU have only a handful of long range missiles to fire at Russia as a last resort, does Two Tier Keir Starmer care that Putin will merely give similar weapons to the Houthi's too sink British battleships in the red sea, probably not, he does not care for these service men and woman, he is just doing this to feel important and try impress Ursula Von Der Leyen and Kamala's bosses.

  9. Exactly Russia is losing in Ukraine, Kursk is been invaded successfully, Putin doesn’t even dare to mobilize and we are to believe he will attack NATO and use nuclear weapons. You have to be a world class imbecile to believe this.

  10. Proof putin knows he is losing…when he cries foul and whines like a toddler….next we will see him throwing himself on the ground and having a temper tantrum!

  11. Clearly 🤡Pootin has the west and Biden wrapped round his little finger, 🖕he continues to receive weapons from different countries and he destroying Ukraine civilians and infrastructure, he’s not stopping at escalating, the word the west is SO scared of, they are helping Pootin and continuing the this war, 🤡🤡🤡💪🇺🇦🇺🇦💪

  12. Putin is terrified of losing his own life and that is the only reason for continuing this war. His childish threats mean nothing. He is fully aware that if he escalates this war he will be living the rest of his life in hiding and it will be extremely risky to set foot outside again. He does not want that.

  13. Lol. No bite.. Why Zelensky crying foul n begging for more weapons if no byte? By the way, has Zelensky organised pick-up trucks to collect 12,000 dead UA/NATO soldiers in Kursk?

  14. This could escalate in to a nuclear ward pretty fast. Iran has already shipped to
faith-360 short range missiles to Russia to free up the long range missiles they have been using to keep the Ukrainian Army in check. Put warned NATO it was a red line and they better not give Ukraine the long range missiles . He is most afraid of the ATACM missiles America Is giving Ukraine because they are very hard to shoot down and always hit the target. We are playing a game of Chicken with nuclear weapons. The situation is more critical than the Cuban missile crisis.

  15. So Putler thinks NATO is currently NOT involved in the war. What is the range of a long range missile by the way? i.e. how many miles/km is defined as long range? If Ukrainians and others were smart, the language would change to might include "longer / extended range", not "long range". In fact why even advertise the range to the enemy ??? Seems a tad silly. Perhaps keep it somewhat ambiguous, so red lines become grey and slightly blurry. Using the term permission is a big mistake. The west seems to have created a rod for its own back, by talking about permission. The whole concept of permission shouldn't even be on the table of public speculation. Arguably it shouldn't even be a private discussion. You give them the tools to do the military job as they see fit. As long as the focus is military defence, there should be no restrictions on forward leaning defensive measures.

  16. putin running out of red crayon, drawing all these lines, looks like he is now using the yellow crayon now ( a refernece to being a coward, not a racist slur on Asiana)

  17. How exactly has Putin struggled? He controls Eastern Ukraine. Each of the offensives Ukraine has launched into Russian territory have been driven into stagnation. Another media outlet seeking to destroy its credibility with respect to this conflict?

  18. The Russian escalatory response would far more likely be a general mobilisation against Ukraine. That would be the next logical rational step, however the threshold for the Russian public supporting that is yet to be met.

  19. Ukraine's actions are an attempt at levelization, not escalation. An escalation would be a ramped up Russian response above its current extreme level. Not every move in conflict necessarily leads to escalation, but could be viewed as a necessary adjustment to match the situation. The term escalation implies a significant increase in conflict intensity, whereas leveling actions could be necessary for maintaining a balanced defense or ensuring parity. This applies both to active and passive defensive postures.
