has any barry actually said that to paddy? we couldn’t give a shit if they did
they spent most their time aiding the nazis and giving condolences for the death of hitler
Absolutely no British person has ever had that conversation with someone Irish.
The British left the Republic 100 years ago, they could have taught how many generations by now?
Catalans and Basques have managed it.
Let’s be honest, even if they did get taken over by the Nazis, if they put in as much effort to learn German as they do Irish, they would still be speaking English anyway.
“If it wasn’t for us you’d be speaking German” is a very, VERY American brag. Barry’s obsessed with the war, but I don’t think he’d even say that.
Is it not the Americans that say that?
I honestly don’t think this exchange would ever happen.
that’s a yank talking point, try again.
Did a Yankee make this meme?
Thing is, most Irish lads I’ve met weren’t too eager to learn Gaelic.
A very based old fellow I’ve met on linguistic travel explained to me that, while being deep into celtic lore, traditions and even rites, he failed to learn Gaelic when he was young because the young republic did a terrible job at interesting people in it and now most people are just confortable speaking the international language.
Is it due to British interference or the Irish simply not caring enough to preserve their language?
Genuine question.
Remind me how many years Hebrew was ‘dead’ for, again? And, whilst you’re at it, how many speak it today in Israel and around the world?
I was actually shocked that everyone was speaking english when I visited Ireland a couple years back. I somehow thought that Irish was still a thing. Guess I am just a bit to naive
Irish is just a garbage language if they couldn’t keep it alive. The fact there are more native Frisian speakers is hilarious to me.
Irish people try not to shove their victimhood complex in everyone’s faces for five minutes challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]

Potatoes, great beer, pride in our Union and bombing the English. We have so much in common and we love you, Ireland. If you like you can squeeze in between Denmark and the Dutch and join the Fatherland. Together we can take care of your pest problem up north if you like – we kinda have experience with that.
At least, you guys didn’t end up speaking French as the likes of us poor souls. Forever tarnished around here…
Average paddy after 2 pints.
What’s actually mad is bilingual children of migrants are actually picking it up in schools no problem. Us natives are just too goddamn lazy to learn it. Knew a Russian guy who arrived here at 15/16 back in the early 90’s and done honours Irish in his leaving cert within two years.
Skill issue.
I will accept Ireland as a country when they speak irish
when have we ever said that
Yeah well it’s not that we don’t want to speak ot, it’s because it’s basically a single dialect from donegal. Can’t stand it due to it not been more fluid guttural when taught in school instead of sounding like a hillybilly
Whenever ww2 is brought up in the comments of this sub, rest assured there will be a paddy on Hitlers side lol
Wer sagt, dass ich nicht schon Deutsch spreche?
But also, that seems like something an American would say, not Barry.
