Amsterdam to Berlin in 90 minutes? Europe tests hyperloop vehicles • FRANCE 24 English

The first successful test of a hyperloop vehicle in Europe has been carried out at the European Hyperloop Center in the Netherlands, bringing the dream of passengers hurtling between the continent’s cities at more than 700kph one step closer to reality.

  1. So, what will be realistic passenger capacity per hour for this tube from Amsterdam and Berlin? They will have to space individual pods and what do you do in case of emergency with a full tube of pods spaced along miles and miles, ha?

  2. ROFL! Having seen first hand dutch engineer, there is no way I'd touch this – look at the mess when they built the light rail in Den Haag, look at the mess on doing to the underground at Amsterdam station. Stick to cheese and clogs dutch engineers, your good at that.

  3. Knowing the Dutch work speed and the amount of political debates required to change the destination of pieces of land to realise the rail network, 2030 is not even feasible. Lets talk about 2040. Also, this is a private company with a profit goal. Don't expect it to be cheap to travel with. But again, the normal public transport in the Netherlands is not cheap either. One of the most expensive already in Europe.

  4. Get it over with. If we don't take into account the cost of hyperloop, who wants a concrete tunnel on poles in their backyard? For now DP is the only one with pockets deep enough for a pilot, in an abandoned desert. It's a good academic exercise though, but please learn from this.

  5. These comments are disappointing. Invest in it or don't, it's your own money… but attempts at technological innovation should ALWAYS be applauded.

  6. Aviation accounts for only 5% of oil consumption. Account for high altitude emissions emission 1.89 still marginal compared to electricity generation and automobiles. Why don’t go for easier carbon cut go against the hardest carbon to be cut?

  7. It's better to make 400km/h on average, and it will be enough to resign from flying in the EU. Don't like revolutionary technologies, because accidents must happen to test them on people. Just read about the infamous German ICE accident, after which they made a few significant safety changes. The same was true with planes.

  8. Hyperloop again? I thought that we have enough evidence, that the concept is at least highly problematic and most likely not suitable for transport of large number of people between two metropolitan areas. One would have to chain several dozens of those pods to have sufficient capacity, but at that point it is basically HSR in pipe.

Also if anybody wants to speed up travel between Berlin and Amsterdam, it would, mot likely be cheaper to upgrade existing lines or build new HSR. There already is HSR from Berlin to Hanover, now it would be necessary to upgrade line to Münster, either though Osanbrück, or Bielfeld and then upgrade line to Warendorf. Then it would be necessary to either upgrade line from Münster to Zvwolle or build link between Cosfeld and Winterswijk and upgrade existing lines leading to those towns.

Another issue is that many lines in Europe still operates with speeds not only below 200kph, but below 160 or even 120 kph. So perhaps simple upgrades that would increase the speed on main lines to 200kph could still be enough to significantly cut down the travel times.

  9. I thought the EU was more responsible than the US with its taxpayers money. But apparently the Elon Musk's megaplan to slow down the completion of HS rail in california has also infected us europeans

  10. Nonsense project, It’s too expensive to build a big network which nobody want in their backyard, it can only transport a few people from A to B who still needs other means of transport because it will definitely won’t make a stop where you wan to get out.

  11. I wish these engineers all the luck making this a reality, but I'm sceptical.

Firstly, I hear the classic '2030' milestone. They do know 2030 is pretty much 5 years away? And in that time, they want to bring the speed from 30 kmph to anything significantly more than can already be achieved. They also have to construct the hundreds of kilometers of infrastructure necessary (including arranging the financials and permits). Another aspect: volume. Great if you can transport 10 people to Berlin in 90 minutes, but it needs to transport thousand(s) to make it a worthwhile investment.

  12. So, taking ideas from Musk of all people. “Inventor” of the magical self immolating non-self driving car. Maybe you can expand on his idea of turning space into a giant dumpster.

  13. Testing at 30kmph and they are dreaming of 700kmph🤣. And that is called a tunnel with trains travelling 300+kmph in those tunnels already. So is the vacuum "tunnel" ever going to make it to production?

  14. its goood for time savers, but not good for time lovers, who enjoy the ride and yje scenery in europe on the road. as lomg as the traditional rail is not replaced its good to have this project around so that we can use both.
