*tries to contain my hate for motorways*
I live close to one of the entrances of the Autolaghi, it’s an important piece of history for Italy, I like having it here.
Tomorrow there will be a car parade from Milan to Varese as well to commemorate the inauguration.
Changed the world for the worse
That was when oil was bursting out of the ground.
Now we’re hitting the ceiling of production and have to …uh… save the planet.
I’ve just been to Italy. I feel some of the motorways there have never been renovated since being created a century ago.
Changed the world for the worse.
Hard to call it an invention but ok
Was it the first though? And invented by Italy?
> The Automobil-Verkehrs- und Übungsstraße (‘Automobile traffic and training road’), known as AVUS (German pronunciation: [ˈaːvʊs] ⓘ), is a public road in Berlin, Germany. Opened in 1921, it was the first automobile-only road, which served as an inspiration for Piero Puricelli’s 1924 autostrada. It also was used as a motor racing circuit until 1998. Today, the AVUS forms the northern part of the Bundesautobahn 115.
Wouldn’t call a street an invention though
I’ve become weirdly obsessed with timeless Italian inventions lately. Take the Moka pot — nearly a 100-year-old invention, simple in design, will probably outlast me, and makes a consistently good ~~espresso~~ mocha every day. Then you have old Campagnolo bicycle trains; car engines;…flippin’ Risotto!
What a place.
Another invention by Italy: failing to conquer Malta with air superiority
North Europeans as usual charging into the comments to complain about and deny our achivements, and they wonder why so many of us dont like them
Making a street wider is clever, but its not “inventing something new”.
Ah and the construction of that motorway was heavily pushed by the fascists in italy…

Did it lead to Rome?
The beginning of the end.
