On the frontline in eastern Ukraine as Russians move closer

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged leaders at the UN General Assembly to seek a “real, just peace” for Ukraine, not “an out”.

Tomorrow he’ll present what he’s calling his “victory plan” to President Biden.

But there’s little talk of victory among his soldiers on the frontline in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have been making slow and steady progress for weeks.

Russia says its troops have begun storming the town of Vuhledar, a Ukrainian stronghold.

Further north the town of Ukrainsk was taken in the last 24 hours.

And they’re moving in on the strategically important city of Pokrovsk, which we’ve visited.

An evacuation order was issued there weeks ago, but around 15,000 of its 50,000 population have stayed put.

  13. This war could have been stopped before it ever started but that didn't suit the USA's long term plans. Zelensky gave them a gift – a war with Russia where the Ukrainians do the fighting and the dying instead of the USA. What a fool.

  14. Western war reporters think they are so important. Yours pointless. What you do is just spread propaganda. I notice they don’t ever actually do full interviews with people in the Donboss. That’s bc overwhelmingly those people support Russia and don’t want to be part of Ukraine. Inconvenient for the western media narrative. Once again the western media narrative pushing this absurd and provably false notion that Russians just send people without motivation without regard for life into a “meat grinder”. Western lies about Russian casualties when in reality two things are factually true: Ukraine has lost 10 times the casualties of Russia, the Donboss is overwhelmingly pro Russia, proven by the fact that they voted to join Russia. Even if you think that’s not true, why did they vote for the opposition candidate / pro Russian candidate before the euro maidan? Western brainwashed fools will believe whatever they like. Ukraine is losing badly and it’s a tragedy. zelensky is a war criminal and a coward. Every time you look at his face he looks like he wants to cry. Russia is fighting western expansionism and literal Neo Nazis who were murdering people in Donboss for a decade before Russias intervention.

  21. It has become fashionable to interview minnows like Latvia and Estonia and seek their opinion on how to fight Russia, as if these countries know how to ! When the US is unwilling to fight, how can these unimportant countries fight ? Such is the failure and desperation of NATO.

  28. The people of the Donetsk refuse to live under the Authority of these Ukrainian Nationalist nutcases. They are now a Republic in the Russian Federation where they have political representation, can speak their own language and practice their own culture and religion without fear of persecution or prosecution by the Ukrainian Nationalist regime. They are unfit to govern over a multi-ethnic state
