I saw those hideous buildings and wondered how they ever got approved. It seems there weren't approved. And yet the Israeli developers just ignored warnings and notices to halt development, and continued to build illegally.

Local residents have filed numerous complaints over the past year, resulting in warnings from the Planning Department to halt the violations. However, these warnings have largely been ignored by the property’s owner, raising questions about the role of local authorities, specifically the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, which has failed to take adequate action. The illegal construction began before proper permits were secured, leading to enforcement notices from the Planning Department, which were also disregarded by the developers.

This should be so easy to fix: foreign developers are destroying the environment, local residents are mad, the development is illegal, and yet…. Nothing happens! The Israelis just keep building.

Is this because politicians in Cyprus are corrupt and being bribed? So the Israelis know they can just pay people off and get their hotels completed eventually? Or perhaps Cyprus government officials are totally incompetent? How do you let Israelis destroy Latchi and do nothing? Fascinating.

  1. All Cypriot politicians care about is money, always has been and always will be. It’s in their nature.

  2. Oh, just a friendly reminder—be super careful with what you say about foreign investments around here. You know, because any hint of criticism is clearly rooted in racism, not, like, actual concerns about the economy or environment. Who cares about local impact when we’re getting all these amazing benefits, right? So yeah, make sure to stay positive—nothing says progress like pretending everything’s perfect. You wouldn’t want to be labeled as a racist for, I don’t know, asking inconvenient questions or anything.

  3. And to think of the permits and all sorts of hoops you need to jump through to make any modifications to your own residential property…

  4. I wonder if the root cause of all this is the citizens themselves. No matter what they do to us, kripse na perasoume is the motto.

    This country is doomed.

It’s time to brace for the downvotes, I guess.
