  1. I was going to say it’s surprising to not see giant “NO SMOKING” (Russian equivalent) signs everywhere, but after reading about the ship’s condition, I guess it’s not at all surprising. “This is a ship that nobody wants, but that nobody can get rid of.”

  2. Can we run it on shore, somewhere with crazy enough polution that there are no fish – so we can blow the fcker up?

Politics šmolitics, the blast from that amount should be absolutely orgasmic. Bonus if in early morning, when there is fog in air – better shockwave!

  3. Click bait title…

Ammonia nitrate is a oxidiser not an explosive.

It needs something to oxidise to burn or explode…

The most common explosive use for ammonia nitrate is called ANFO, it’s where you mix ammonia nitrate with a fuel. Normally kerosene or diesel as it keeps its stability.

The explosive then needs a very strong shock to set off, you can’t set it off with a basic blasting cap.

The ira used ANFO explosive, but set it off with a smaller plastic explosive charge.

I’d be more concerned about the sunken ww2 ship filled with unstable ammunition…

  4. I feel bad that this gives me a pleasant adrenaline rush.

Be super fun to redirect it somewhere it can’t harm anyone and set it off.

  5. When I first read about a ship packed with Russian fertilizer I thought it was about a warship full of soldiers.

  6. >*Jens Wenzel Kristoffersen, a defence analyst at Nordic Defense Analysis and a former naval officer, questioned why the ship had not been ordered to return to Russia.*

    >

  7. A lot of explosive cargo is transported every day.
Moreover, as far as I understand, fertilizers are now Qatari

  8. With a ship like that, the Russians don’t even need a nuclear club. How did it even get to the point where “this” is floating off the coast of Europe?!

  9. Sooo. Norwegians in cooperation with flag state, calssification (DNV-GL) and Recognized Organisation despite ISM related deficiencies (plus those mentioned in the article) on Last PSC report from Norway, decided to sweep the s..t under the carpet, and after decorative detention, just let her sail. Instead of making the plan to diffuse the bomb. As you would expect from adults. Just as if carriage of Ammonium Nitrate by sea was illegal and unusuall.

Himalaya of hipocrisy, as all the rest of international shipping.

  10. Afaik, Russia was the largest exporter of fertilizer, and the world needs that stuff. Wonder why your food is expensive?

  11. Just for reference, there are hundreds of these floating “bombs” hauling fertilizer, every day, every year… bullshit headline

  12. Why can’t it be towed? I guess tens of ships are carrying fertiliser all over the world and we don’t hear about explosions.
