I thought one of the selling points of the kamikaze drones was that you could be BVR or at least out of direct line of sight so you could harass armor. Wouldn’t a wire mean you have to have a direct line of sight to the armor? Like wouldn’t the wire get snagged on trees or other obstacles? At that point why not have a tow or other system that would have a more guaranteed effect?
Edit: I’m dumb and haven’t had my coffee. Thanks for the replies
Wire-guided? Jesus Christ in no time at all Ukraine’s gonna look like the treeline of a tiny tyke fishing derby what with all the fiber-optics waving in the breeze..
The reason for wire guided is to avoid jamming. But there would be a trade off.
So, basically it’s a kite, right?
✂️ What we need is counter-drones with shears.
the footage from these being used in Kursk has been the clearest drone footage over the past few years, HD all the way to the second of impact.
Interesting that frame for it is cut from textolite, from what it looks like
The important thing is, free drone!
Plus of course, knowing what Russia is using. This looks more like the kind of thing you’d use for spying just as much as exploding. Maybe both at once.
The US used guide by wire missiles and other weapons in Vietnam.
