Where in London was this photo taken?

I have a picture of my grandparents on their honeymoon in London in 1956, and can’t figure out where this picture was taken. I think it might be in parliament square (from the building and statue behind them) but could anyone confirm this please?

  1. Updated: it’s NOT the Gladstone Statue in front of St Clements Danes Church on the corner of Fleet Street and Aldwych.

  2. Southeast corner of Trafalgar Square: St Martin-in the Fields and South Africa House in the background; the statue is of Sir Henry Havelock.

  3. Trafalgar Square, south east corner lookin north/nor-east. Statue is Major General Sir Henry Havelock, the church is St Martin-in-the-Fields.

  4. You used to be able to buy packets of seed to feed to the pigeons in Trafalgar Square and it was a fairly typical for people to be photographed surrounded by the the birds and with them perched on subjects hands and heads like this. There was a complete change (around 30 years ago at a guess) and feeding the pigeons became there became discouraged.
