Different courier did this to me on bin day while the bin was out front waiting to be collected.
I can’t imagine there was any thought process went into it, I guess some of them just don’t care.
Every single time, without fail, a delivery man has put my package in the bin, I’ve got a complete refund because it wasn’t delivered.
I used to work for Yodel several years ago (yes people got their parcels, no I didn’t yeet them over the fence) and we were explicitly told not to put things in bins because of things like the damn things being emptied and such. Like real people deliver stuff, real people know that wheely bins could well go in the back of a bin lorry.
From the other side of the fence, I know why couriers do it and it’ll be the sheer volume they have. Back when I did it you’d top 70 stops ish a day, right as I was leaving it got to over 100. Way before covid. It was getting to be like a Christmas rush every day. Doesn’t make it in anyway right though.

I put a complaint in after a delivery person put my nieces (who was just about to turn 1) birthday present in the refuse bin, not even the recycling bin. I have cats and used cat litter, though bagged, was in there. Even though it wasn’t bin day, I couldn’t give such a contaminated gift to a baby (Amazon doesn’t always go a good job of putting things in boxes, this was basically pjs in their default see through plastic with holes in it with my address slapped on. I don’t know how parents keep their kids presents secret because if she lived with me she would have seen it as I brought it in).
I never had anything put in my bin again after I complained. They started doing it BEHIND the bin which was fine.
My safe place is the bin an tbh never thought about the bin being taken out Not rly a problem tho because I always forget to take the bins out😂
I don’t mind so much when they put it in the blue bin with the cardboard and that. When they put it in the black bin which contains literal bags of dog shit I feel like committing murder
