Good Morning Scotland,
this got removed from r/casualUK so I thought I’d repost it here. As you can see in the second slide this is part of a bigger project that I’ve been working on.
DISCLAIMER: I did not paint this. I used a mapmaking tool.
Since I’m not from Scotland I need your help with some of the details for this map.
* Names: I tried to come up with some funny wordplays here and there – but there are probably better/funnier options in a lot of places and I of course also don’t speak gaelic, but Google Translate helped me there… probably not for the better * Memes/Stereotypes: In Germany there is the myth that Bielefeld doesn’t exist. So I called it Mystika and surrounded it with blue fog. Are there any memes/stereotypes/myths… that would fit a fantasy map such as this one? * Folklore/Legends: I tried to include as many as I could, (Loch Ness first of all) but there are probably more as Scotland has a long and proud history
Put a sea monster in the water, preferably nessie
Try not to use the same Kirk/Spock joke every time you see the former, considering kirk is just Scots for church.
Ha! I love Mungow for Glasgow – that’s pretty clever
Kelpies, selkies, na fir bhrèige, the fae. There’s lots of mythology to go on. Even Hercules, the wild bear of North Uist!
I like that you’ve gone with Gaelic (sorry, can’t spell it the “Gaelic “ way). It’d be worth your while having a list of your names and the real names and the English. It would work really nicely as a couple of hundred words to learn on Gaelic for the people that are learning it. Aside from that, I don’t understand what you put for Aberdeen but it be referring to it as Radioactive city Most radioactive place in Britain tying with Cornwall. Due to the granite.
More Castles!
Question – Do you know that Cù marbh means dead dog?
a irn bru statue
More trees, Lochs and rivers, rolling hills. Alot more castles more mountains
Should probably a unicorn or two cutting about, it’s our national animal after all.
My first thought, and this may not be what you’re looking for, is to get some volcanos in there. Scotland isn’t exactly known for volcanic activity but Edinburgh castle is built on an extinct volcano. There are clear signs of volcanic activity around Mid and East Lothian – Bass Rock is a volcanic plug, for example. Might just diversify the terrain a bit.
Cool map though 👍
You could try adding in a mark that shows the location of all the Gregg’s bakeries
I presume there will be a unicorn invasion of Dundee?
Lacks Haggis. Make sure to represent both Highlands and Lowlands subspecies
You could turn some of the seaside towns IRL like Ayr, Irvine, Prestwick and Troon into Little dock or port towns for your map, could work as little trade hubs.
