I don’t think I have ever seen a budget in which there are only winners. Quite the impressive list from Dublin today: what a contrast to the upcoming UK scenario.

  1. We get most of these things already . It only looks good, they are paying through the nose for it as it is.

  2. Everyone will be taking their granny to work so they can get free public transport.

  3. Paid for with 13bn of taxes that in large part could and should have been paid elsewhere.

This is British level robbery. Just done in a suit.

  4. They didn’t do one of the top things the south needs, the ETF rules scrapped and somthing similar to and ISA, even if it’s not as generous

  5. There is a bin load of other countries taxes in the pocket to splurge on bribing the electorate. I would like a bit of bribing myself though.

  6. Impressive.

Fine Gael have nothing to worry about. That will secure a FFG Gov for the foreseeable future.

  7. As a long term unionist, it’s stuff like this that’s swaying me towards a United Ireland.

Sure, tax status of ISA’s, housing, among other things need a good review, but fuck me, I cannot imagine a scenario in the next 10-15 years where the UK govt will have a surplus.

  8. Should show that to people who say they’d be better off in the UK. No cuts to child benefit and winter fuel allowance. Maybe decades ago the Irish economy was much worse but not so much the case now. The Irish economy has performed better than the UK’s in recent years. More attractive place for companies to invest post Brexit.

Much better foreign policy than the UK, with Conservative and Labour governments responsible for wars in the Middle East and unconditionally supporting Israel, with double standards in place.

However there is still massive inequality and gaps in wealth between rich and poor. A huge housing crisis, with lack of affordable housing and high rents. Homelessness has continued to rise. The prices of things down south are really expensive.
