He will never be convinced he will lose. Germany wasn’t, Japan wasn’t, he won’t be. The only way Russia stops is without Putin in power or their military is destroyed.

No, a balance is not needed – Ukraine needs to be able to have an absolutely huge edge over Russia, if it’s just balanced then Putin can drag the war on for years to come.
If Ukraine has an absolutely massive advantage and the Russians get kicked back fast, there is a chance that he will agree to meaningful negotiations
