  1. The sensible thing to do would be to just shut off migration from certain counties, with allowances made for specific cases. If you cross-reference that list of most imprisoned nationalities with other data, such as social housing usage, it’s clear that migration from some places is absolutely a net negative.

  2. 1/50 Albanians in prison and thats not counting previous crime or crimes not prison worthy…

What a broken system we have.

  3. Ooh, in before the restrictions.

Also, is the table sorting broken for everyone or just me?
Doesn’t sort properly from highest to lowest

  4. Worth noting that there isn’t really any new data here. This kind of data gets published on a regular basis.

The only new thing here is that the telegraph have made the existing data easier to read.

The other data regarding criminality, immigration status, nationality etc still hasn’t been published.

The government only releases data pertaining to the nationalities of people currently in prison. The government doesn’t release data regarding nationality/immigration status of criminals who don’t go to prison, or have gone to prison and since been released.

  5. All Middle East migrants on the list have rape or similar charges. Are they specifically selecting these cases or rape is the crime of choice for that population.

All others are murder for instance.

  6. I’m shocked who knew this but let’s have record numbers of immigrants and illegal people come here. It’s sad we don’t have a land border we could build a wall or fence because apparently water is not a good enough border. Yes those 100,000 that come here are illegals.

  7. We need to find a way to put a migration cap on some of these countries, Albania especially. Take a DNA sample of the more conspiring criminals, deport them and make sure they’re not allowed to reenter. Will never happen though as we like these cheap grey market workers.

  8. The table they provide, when you sort by a number column, treats numbers as letters (ie sorts 1300 before 14)

  9. Never mind that. Look at the mugshots.
Turkey Al-Turkey is one of the funniest names I’ve ever seen.

  10. Would be nice to see the figures with all the drug related clearly noted.

I see they have ‘the worst’ but I imagine many are just helping people day to day work around the governments idiotic drug policies.

  11. “Migration” is actually an incoherent term.

A generalisation of something with the most extreme type of variance. It’s useless.

We need to stop talking about it, and start specifying the nationality.

No one should be arguing around a word that unites both Japanese migrants and Albanian migrants. Like they are in any way, shape or form similar to each other.

  12. I am a Filipino, so I was wondering how we fared. There’s a sizeable Filipino population in the UK (52k), similar in size to Albania and larger than Vietnam (12k) and Malaysia (32k). But surprisingly, we are not even on the table. Are there really no Filipinos in UK prisons, or is it just a case of missing data?

  13. If they don’t have citizenship when they commit the crime, deport them. And I’m not talking about a brawl in a pub bcuz we all know that the English here can get a bit rowdy during a football match 😂. I’m talking about violent crimes like rape or murder.

  14. Just a minor note. The figures don’t take into account gender ratios, so are a bit inaccurate. Men are >20 times more likely than women to be imprisoned (96% of the UK’s prison population are men) and some immigrant groups are heavily male. But their imprisonment stats are compared to a 51:49 M:F UK ratio.

For example, 83% of Albanians arriving in the UK are men (M:F 83:17). So when we adjust the Albanian M:F ratio to match the UK’s gender ratio, we find their imprisonment rate drops to 163.79 per 100,000 rather than 232.33 per 100,000. It does not affect Albanians much, their crime remains very high, but it could affect some other groups that are closer to the UK rate.

It would be best if we were able to separate and compare male and female imprisonment rates, compare apples with apples.

  15. Am I noticing a trend where the Telegraph is trying to out-mail the daily mail recently? Don’t think I ever saw it resort to this sort of “research” before. So have we got any good centre-right papers left now? I guess we just have to punt on The Times not carrying a Murdoch narrative on a given Wednesday or smth.

  16. That’s for people in prison currently, I wonder what the percentage of them classed as criminals would be.

  17. Ireland has over 600. Which was the 3rd largest non UK number

Quizzically and oddly no one seems to have focused on that in the thread

    How strange

  18. Christ. I get it, there are immigrants who are criminals but why do we have to read this garbage analysis from a binfire rag like the Telegraph?
