Washing machine

Hi
I have a question related to installing my washing machine on my own. It mind sound like a basic question but google did not help me.

Do I have to attach the water inlet of the washing machine to this tap. I am bit confused here. Do i have to open and close this tap each time I want to wash my clothes?

Also, what are these two knobs below the tap, hot and cold water?

  1. yes you should be able to connect your machine to this tap although you probably need some connecting part. washing machines usually have an [Aqua-Stop feature](https://www.google.de/search?client=safari&sca_esv=a68b741c7b814f76&hl=de-de&sxsrf=ADLYWIKfX4EE3awjBZKDrRsqpbnAMKhvdw:1728159266493&q=aqua+stop&udm=2&fbs=AEQNm0A6bwEop21ehxKWq5cj-cHa02QUie7apaStVTrDAEoT1FdmHTSMJP_rxgj2yFrTtBkypCVU7l67UhL5TgwwwP-w5wEQs9Tq0Yhm48JdNMzFcf7tsCJG7sRSDi3qOnXINGgDjgj0kX0qM3sMi9YQAPdi7GBHDmdWGyqJP1X6kcqqDLDzPTuwhmMB8vo1gCAfsw_ICWT7mNH_KG0YL9yoJOrbKs0JsK-KeuttrB1h5-dw0TjDR6w&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjV-8b5hviIAxWzX_EDHSzCBicQtKgLegQICRAB&biw=414&bih=671&dpr=2) so you can leave the tap open all the time and nothing bad should happen.

im not sure about these two other knobs. maybe they control the water flow in your bathroom? try it out if you are really curious i guess😅

  2. The 2 knobs are the manual shut off valves for the bathroom (?).

The water tap you can hook up your washing machine, but this a very old type, where you can’t use the current typical water hoses of actual washing machine models… you need to used the tube directly to the tap, locked with a tube clamp .

And in this case, I would recommend to close the tap when the washing machine is not in use …

  3. You should just close the tap each time to be safe.

With a correctly installed aqua stop hose that senses when the water is leaking and shuts off automatically this isn’t necessarily needed, cause the washing machine can only leak while running then.

Also need an adapter from normal washing machine to 18th century water tap, to fix it with a hose clamp.

Or have a plumber come exchange it for a more modern appliance tap where the washing machine hose will just screw onto.

The other two screws are likely the central shutoff for hot and cold water in your apartment.

Also: your washing machine cannot pump the waste water higher than its height, so id your outlet for waste water is high up on the wall, or even just a simple wash basin, but a washing machine that can pump higher than its height or the additional pump you can get on more expensive lines.
