  1. In other news, French people SMASH.

Iceland, though, I did not expect that. Is it a cold or volcanic thing?

  2. France is wrong.

Despite what the doc says, it doesn’t account for civil partnerships in France (PACS). So no, 65% of children are not born out of wedlock.

  3. Good for them. Map legend suggestion, instead of red use green, this is a positive not a negative

  4. Probably related to the relevance of the institution of Marriage, I would guess these numbers will go hand in hand with how many marriages are there per year.

  5. In Hungary it used to be almost 50%, but the Orbán government made child benefits conditional on marriage, so the number of marriages skyrocketed.

  6. The interesting thing is the relatively low percentage of people in many countries often considered most progressive or atleast irreligious. The countries with the highest percentage are Mexico, Chile, Costa Rica and Argentina with about 80%.

  7. Portugal succumbing to Western decadance, and should really look to its fellow Eastern European countries for inspiriation.

  8. I have a question : do they take into account those who had religious weddings but not civil weddings at the time of the birth of children?

  9. Key word is human rights. In Nordics the partners enjoy the same rights married or not. In Belarus, on the contrary, there is only one person withe a full set of human rights, and he is not shy to father kids out of wedlock.

  10. Being a bastard (piç) is very shameful thing in Turkey. Let’s crown this claim with a popular old Turkish movie scene:

    you are a bastard

no i am not a bastard

    boo you are a bastard

  11. I was suprised by Poland, because not many people are getting married here.

But there are no kids too, so it fits.

  12. 100-200 years ago, all of Europe where probably the same as Turkey is today.

    I am guessing.
