  1. Vapes cause issues about as often as any other device (e.g. phones, tablets, or laptops).

The way the article is worded makes me suspect it was a loose battery in his pocket rather than a battery in a vape (be that a changeable battery or one fixed in the device).

The batteries used in vapes can absolutely cause problems if you stick them in a pocket with change or keys. In that scenario it probably is on the store to offer advice and that’s why the store is liable rather than the manufacturer of the vape itself.

  2. Sued the vape shop for £20k and won, because they didn’t give “storage and battery advice” when he bought the vape? What a fucking melt.

What exactly would “storage and battery advice” have done for this bloke? Would he have suddenly removed his battery and kept his vape in a locked cupboard between puffs? No, he’d have still kept it in his pocket regardless, like EVERY SINGLE VAPE USER in the entire country does. Their entire purpose is to be an on-hand cigarette alternative, not a device you have to dismantle and store between each of your 600 puffs.

It’s unfortunate that a product has exploded in his pocket and caused him injuries through no fault of his own, don’t get me wrong. I hope he recovers well. But, the fact that he’s sued a business for a technicality which wouldn’t have changed a single thing about his injury just winds me up. This sort of shit is why prices for everything in the UK are astronomical compared to our average wages. Compo culture Britain.
