Most of Europe is fine without Russian gas. But the end of the supply contract through Ukraine at the end of this year could prove costly for Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

  1. They will not be able to warm their cold hearts. But they didn’t want to do that anyway.

  2. Those three countries were basically constantly saying “fuck you” to Ukraine since the beginning of this conflict. They get what they deserve.

  3. Everyone else has just taken the punch early so suck up and stfu. No more gas money supplying the bloodbath

  4. There needs to be a reckoning after Ukraine wins. All the countries that held back support or aid need to be taught a lesson. That includes the United States.

  5. If only these countries had been given years to switch providersโ€ฆ oh well.

  6. we in Austria had ample time to get off russian gas, but our politicians just fucking don’t care… they pretend maybe, but they just want the cheap russian gas…
I would rather be less warm in the winter and help win Ukraine’s freedom from russian oppression!
    slava ukraini ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

  7. Shame for the ordinary people but the governments of those countries chose to cozy up to Russia over their European neighbours.

  8. This really explains why these countries were basically saying “give up now Ukraine” (and Russia please make sure to deliver us gas when you take over! We’ll do anything)

  9. Ukraine should cut that gas supply to Hungary Austria and Slovakia NOW !!

They’re all basket case right wing populist Putin friendly countries.

  10. I’m honestly disappointed in the lack of cojones that our leaders have shown, primarily Slovakia and Hungary.

Cut the electricity exports, cut the diesel exports. If Ukraine wants to play energy terrorism just like Russia, then lets show them they aren’t the only ones who can play that game.

  11. It’s not like they didn’t have time or a very good reason to find a new supplier. They’ve made their beds and it’s time to lie in it.

  12. The pipeline could be dismantled, and the metal could be used to build weapons against Russia.

  13. The old Aesop fable about the grashopper and the ants. While the grashopper led the easy life during the summer, the ants were storing food for the winter. So when winter came, the grashopper had nothing, while the ants were safe and satisfied in their home.

Take home lesson is: Prepare for the bad times. Russian gas going away was 100% predictable. Austria, Hungary and Slovakia didn’t prepare and now they will suffer through the winter. My compassion is tiiiiiny.

  14. I’m sure that the “people’s chancellor” has so many great solutions for this problem…
