Protection of the LGBTQ+ Community / I am looking for advice: Recognition of my situation as a refugee due to my sexual orientation in North Rhine-Westphalia

Hello everyone,

I am a 28-year-old doctor, have been in Germany for two months on a 16D visa, and live in North Rhine-Westphalia.
I work here part-time and am preparing for the exams to get my license to practice medicine in Germany.

In my home country I was persecuted and imprisoned because of my sexual orientation. I have a final court decision confirming that I was persecuted for being gay. This decision has been translated and certified in German.

I want to contact the city's asylum office (Städtischen Asylstelle) to explain my situation and show that returning to my home country is not an option.

I'm asking for your advice:
* Does anyone have experience with a similar situation?
* Are there other organizations I could contact besides the asylum office?
* What other documents or information should I prepare?
* Are there any particular phrases I should use in my application?

I would like to emphasize that I'm not looking for financial support, just recognition of my refugee status and protection from deportation.

Thanks for any help!

  1. Why do you want to claim asylum when you can have a skilled worker permit after you complete your exams?

Applying for asylum could make applying for a Blue Card later much more difficult.

I would recommend posting your question on info4alien.de.

  2. This is absolutely to the point where talking to an Immigration lawyer is your best bet.

They will know MUCH more than we do and be able to properly assess if Refugee status, or Skilled Migrant Visa are better for you in your situation ect.
