Ukrainian recruiters descend on Kyiv’s nightlife in search of men not registered for conscription. Ukrainian military recruitment officers have raided restaurants, bars and a concert hall in Kyiv, checking military registration documents and detaining men who are not in compliance.

2. Never really saw a lot of recruitment-eligible men out at the places I visited in Kyiv. Most were under 25, or current or former military. One guy I did meet that was eligible was very nervous being by the police booth and to be honest, he was a programmer and really not cut out for military duty. I hope they’ve gotten better at placing people in roles they’re fit for when conscripted, because as great of a person that guy was, I wouldn’t want him holding a rifle next to me, but I’d pay good money to have him flying recon drones
