Hi, I wonder how often do you need to clean your Moccamaster? Also I found those two products I wonder dose both do the same job or do I need to use both of them ? Or only one ? Or do you know maybe a better option? Thank you

  1. I’m doing it about once a year and feel dumb for buying such cleaners.

If you pour only pure water to the coffee maker’s tank (and not from the coffee pot which has some coffee remainders in it), and if your tab water is of good quality (no calcium, no copper taste etc), then it’s IMHO not necessary at all.

  2. You can clean your Moccamaster running vinegar thru it and after that full amount of water once or twice.

  3. I use a small amount of white vinegar (väkiviinaetikka) mixed with water, and then run around 4 full water tanks afterwards. The need to do this depends on the usage of the coffee maker, with my current about 5-7 per week, I needed to do this after about six months since I last did it.

I also don’t fill my Moccamaster with it’s own pan, but with a clean container, so the only thing that needs to be cleaned is the limescale build up.

Those products you posted are fine, you can use either, but a big bottle of vinegar will be cheaper.

  4. You can just use baking soda to do the same thing, as for frequency that’s per your preference. I know people who do it once a month and some maybe once a year if that.
