  1. They already do that with a lot of things sadly.you “buy” a movie thru Sony but when they no longer have a license agreement with the real owners,it’s no longer on your PlayStation.

How can you not legally own something then sell that thing

  2. When people quit participating in their games, they will lose money. Then maybe he will own nothing.

  3. They don’t care, they can’t read the room, they think they above the commoner, they are disastrously disconnected from reality.

  4. These products, you do need to understand, are a service and more tech companies transition away into selling products that you buy and then own and rather contract where the tech company provides something for you, as long as you keep paying.

You may think, “Well then, I am not going to buy that service!” however, how many services are you paying for right now? There are services that are convenient and free. You use them because they are good. Over the years the options disappeared and you forget there were other options. Then, down the line, you are charged for that service. You like it a lot and don’t want to see it go away so you do pay the monthly fee…forever. A small fee might be charged into a larger fee as well, but convenience has overridden going back, and equally, when the rest of society’s standard is now certain services, you have to prescribe to said services. It has become a standard in a lot of ways.

And that’s just simple services. Beyond that certain services are far far too technical for you to do on your own…or so you think. With enough knowledge and a bit of time you can re-create your own cloud based environment for your files. You could go through the methods or purchasing or obtaining liscenes and then have permanent access, and free access to said thing.

The percentage of people actually going to do that is less than 1% . Most just won’t end up paying for what they see as a luxury.

Anyway I will leave you with this, especially the ubisoft and the rest of it: all digital items have little to no scarcity. They need to be generated sure and that costs things however, because they are copied so easily their actual physical worth is measured in the cents of electricity used to store it on a hardrive for years.

  5. As long as we have programmers, developers and hackers we will be good. It seems that being a hacker is the last stand against this digital age as nothing in the digital space is secure. Especially now that we have AI making our jobs that much easier.

  6. I mean … It’s people making the choices. Companies offer options and time after time people choose something that appears cheaper but isn’t.

A good example is streaming movies. It’s way cheaper in the long run to buy DVDs and Blue Rays. Before you say, ” but what about the huge library that Netflix has”, tell me how that’s working out. They remove movies all the time. A way better option is to get a used physical copy. Also most of the movies on there are terrible. So if every month you buy one movie in physical format in a few years you’ll own a copy of all your favorite content.

And before you judge me.. yes I paid for Netflix. But thats only because I wanted it for a few months to catch up on some content and then I cancelled.

  7. This is why i recently bought a VCR on eBay and am buying VHS movies at thrift stores, flea markets, etc. So I don’t have to keep searching through annoying web libraries to find out some obscure contract dispute led to the removal of a film I enjoy from one streaming service’s library. Also got a new vinyl player, and still love the hell out of my original 1996 vintage N64, and my PS2 and Xbox360
