  1. Even though it is a propaganda film, I am very surprised how relaxed the German soldiers are before the assault.

  2. I’ve seen this before, and if I’m right it is from the defence of Cholm in what was Byelorussia. Terrible situation where the German forces were surrounded for several months in a small town greatly outnumbered. Eventually they broke the siege and made it out. Fantastic but lengthy, depressing and traumatic book (a novel) called Siege by a chap called Russ Schneider. He wrote a few about the Ostfront. All very violent and traumatic. He ended up killing himself.
There you are, all very cheery.
I tell you what though, I have never felt so cold as when I was reading that book- he absolutely captured the cold and exhaustion and fatigue and the violent surrealism of that part of the war, a real master of detail. Shame really- I think he was prone to depression and his obsession with the morbid, horrific and violent turned his mind.

  3. That’s either real or crazy good staged propaganda and I honestly don’t know which

  4. I just watched “Come and See” it’s free on youtube. Man the eastern front must have been hell on earth

  5. My grandfather said …. And I quote….

“Those German bastards were high as kites. We didn’t know what they were on, but we knew it was something. Bastards wouldn’t die.”

My grandfather only talked to me about the war (because I too, experienced combat) and man did he fucking hate the Germans and Russians. Nothing got him wound up more than talking about the Nazi’s. He’d be absolutely mortified if he had to hear what’s going on today with all the Russian and white supremacy ass kissing that goes on.

He brought back a lot of cool shit that I cherish. I miss that man every day. Toughest son of a bitch I’ve ever known.

Rest easy Pops. We miss you.

  6. This same footage filmed in with modern tech, you could be forgiven for assuming this was the current Ukraine war.

  7. Anyone notice how similar the music from this is to the Star Wars Imperial theme music.

I wouldn’t be surprised if John Williams listened to these propaganda reels for inspiration.

  8. A coworker told me that his German grandfather was a driver transporting Soviet prisoners from the eastern front. They drove several hours and then executed them with machine guns. They drove back for more and repeat.
