I visited Sissinghurst Castle at the weekend and saw this in the gardens. I have no idea what it means or says, unfortunately I'd forgotten to ask anyone there about it. Anyone have any ideas?

It’s a Roman (Latin) gravestone marking the remains of P A Papylo and P M Mithresl
Did you know google translate has Latin as an option.
Really cool to just point the camera at old stuff and give you a fairly decent translation.
It begins ‘DM ME DADDY PYLO’, and I shan’t repeat the rest as it’s a wee bit saucy
I ran it through Elon’s AI system
**D M (Dis Manibus)** – “To the spirits of the dead.” **PAPAPLO** – Maybe a name or title? **ETCONBM** – No clue, possibly a dedication or official role? **MITHRESL** – Likely related to Mithras, the god of a Roman mystery religion.
Based on what I know, it might read something like: “To the spirits of the dead, Papaplo, in honour of Mithras, may you rest in peace.”
Cheers
Papaplo died from BM
Normally a gravestone indicates someone’s died and has been buried there 👍🏽
Don’t read it out loud! I made that mistake once with a necklace that said “ADE DUE DAMBALLA”…
Is it weird I see Sid the sloth?
This some Wicker man shit.
It is a Roman inscription: Diis Manibus P(ublius) A(ugustus) Papilyo Et Coniuniubiis B(iblia) M(arcella) Mithrense
To the spirits of the departeds Publius Augustus Papylo And his wife Biblia Marcella Mithrense
There is also another line at the very bottom of it, but I can not read it. It is either the name of who bought the stone or the name of their child.

“Tradesman’s entrance at the rear”
No one knows what it means, but its provocative!
