So a publicity stunt by this MP to get the government to include a watered down version in a law in a year or so.

  2. Mobile Phones are not a new thing anymore and when the ones that could finally fit in your pocket were invented when I was in school 20 odd years ago they weren’t allowed back then either.

  3. We could do with a doomscrolling ban on pavements too – in the last 10 days I’ve had 3 folk mindlessly scrolling on their phones sidestep off the pavement in front of my bike and car (twice for the car).

  4. I don’t even understand this article. Anyone that has any sort of experience with secondary schools knows there’s already strictly enforced bans on phone usage.

Teens already aren’t doomscrolling in lessons and many schools won’t allow phone usage during breaks so I don’t know why there needs to be a legal crackdown.

I know some schools take it further and insist on no phones in bags or blazers but unless someone is willing to check every student bag or pat them down, it’s not enforceable. It’s usually unsupported by parents too who like the option to communicate with their children on the school journey when needed.

  5. Why do you need a law? When i was at school if you were caught with your phone playing Snake as thats all it was good for, it was taken off you and returned end of the school day
