If you grew up British you will absolutely remember all of these things! I mean, who didn’t love the guy from Horrible Histories?

  1. He’s in the recent Wonka film, it’s good to see him getting film roles. Also, mandatory shout-out to *Ghosts* with most of the Horrible Histories cast.

  2. He was in a Xmas episode of Death in Paradise and I couldn’t remember where I knew him from, this post cleared it up. Definitely one of the best character actors and a hottie.

  3. Dick Turpin was my sexual awakening no joke….

I mean, they were trying to prove with the song that Dick Turpin wasn’t a historical figure to be romanticised and that he was nasty and gruesome… and yet they put Mathew Baynton in eyeliner and parodied Adam and the Ants… how was I not supposed to fall in love???

  4. I refuse to believe that Mat Baynton is 43 and married with children in the present day and not a succession of hot, overly-dramatic historical figures

  5. I didn’t stop crushing. I thoroughly enjoyed him in ghosts too. He’s like exactly my type though, tall, skinny, mop of hear, striking features or eccentric ones. Kind of how benedict cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes is my exact type too.

  6. I feel seen. I was a grown man when I watched HH, mostly for Mat B. Then I watched Yonderland, The Wrong Mans, Ghosts and this year took a trip to Stratford to see him in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

    There’s no problem here.

  7. Fans be aware, he’s at the MCM comicon at ExCeL London next weekend. My wife is quite excited.

  8. I had a crush but it wasn’t this one it was the first George in the King George song born to rule.

  9. Horrible histories was peak tv . PEAK TV.

I’ve never laughed so much .

Me and my mates used to get a bit tipsy and bang on horrible histories.

I was in my 20s and the adults loved it more than the kids let me tell ya.

  10. The fact that this show is unironically my favourite show of all time and probably changed the trajectory of my life forever despite the fact that I’m not even close to the target demographic.

I’m an Australian born in 2008. I barely remember the show when it was airing, only really getting interested when the reboot came along in 2017(?). That got me to watch the original show which I fell in love with. And since that moment English history (and history in general) has been all I ever think about (just look at my profile and you’ll see that). I’m attending a prestigious select-entry high school for the humanities because of this show. I plan to go to uni and get a degree in history because of this show. My future career will probably be a result of this show. And once again, I’m a foreigner who was born far too late to even enjoy the show in its prime. lol.
