Greenland tsunami shook earth for nine days | BBC News

A massive landslide in a Greenland fjord triggered a wave that “shook the Earth” for nine days.

The seismic signal last September was picked up by sensors all over the world, leading scientists to investigate where it had come from.

The landslide – a mountainside of rock that collapsed and carried glacial ice with it – triggered a 200m wave.

That wave was then “trapped” in the narrow fjord – moving back and forth for nine days, generating the vibrations.

Landslides like this, scientists say, are happening more frequently with climate change – as the glaciers that support Greenland’s mountains melt.

  1. Wonder what frozen bacteria is going to be released to humanity?

We need to stop the use of electronic devices, fossil fuels and major sporting events etc and wars, all contribute to climate change… Live simple, grow organic and live sustainably, grow local, and have a happier way of life

  2. Blame it to these countries.

    Greenhouse gas emissions producer.
    China (31.8%)

    United States (14.4%)

    European Union (4.9%)

    India (9.5%)

    Russia (5.8%)

    Japan (3.5%)

    Other (30.1%)

  3. You don’t say what fjord it was. It looks like it was the Prince Christian Sound. If so, I sailed through it on the P&O Oriana in 2018. It was the most amazing experience ever with snow caps, glaciers, waterfalls, icebergs and growlers with wonderful scenery. It’s hard to imagine a trapped tsunami there.

  4. As soon as I hear climate change I know it's glonalist propaganda. I'm more worried about what the sun will do to us with our weakening magnetosphere during a cme, solar flares or meteorites & astroids impacts.

  5. The last remark is so superfluous. How do you know it was a destructive event? Maybe it was also a needed creative event? The Earth is still coming out of an ice age, as it has done many times, mind you.

  6. Noop i didn't feel a thing all i felt is the weirdness of the jet stream that keeps messing around with pressure levels and giving me a tension headache every few months lol.

  7. "The dots are seismic monitors around the world" Looked like more dots in France say than the whole of Africa & North Eastern Asia, so handy to recognise Earth's action but hardly precise & exacting surely? Looks like the dots are to protect & warn of threats to property & people of "importance!

  8. 0:23 This chick , " This land , continuous carved and molder over by Vast Glaciers . " This has been going on millions of years., This process , the carved and molding over by Vast Glaciers.. But she wants to a tribulate it to Climate change.
