Female Twitch executive, 69, is killed in Netherlands horror crash

Twitch head of music Cindy Charles has died in the Netherlands in a car crash at the age of 69.

Charles, who died on Monday, played a major role in Twitch’s recent deal for DJs under all three major labels – Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment.

Police say the California native, who lives in Berkeley, was hit by a garbage truck while walking in Amsterdam.  

The streaming platform’s CEO Daniel Clancy confirmed her death on Friday on LinkedIn.

Clancy said ‘anyone that uses music on Twitch owes a debt of gratitude to Cindy’s work.

‘She always had a bright smile on her face even as she negotiated unprecedented music licensing agreements for Twitch including the recent DJ agreement.’

The deal established Twitch as the first platform for JDs to livestream legally, as reported by Variety.  

Charles was due to speak at the Amsterdam Dance Event on Thursday in the Dutch capital.

A spokesperson for ADE said in a statement: ‘Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time. 

‘She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues and the global music industry.’

Earlier this month she led the team that livestreamed Charlie XCX’s album preview at Storm King in upstate New York. 

Charles had been at Twitch since 2018 and was promoted to head of music in April, 2022. 

She previously worked as head of business development at Amazon Tickets and Amazon’s Video Shorts. 

Charles is survived by her husband Ricky Fishman, her stepson Sam Fishman and son Ben Charles.
