Exploration and development company 80 Mile has reported “significant concentrations” of natural hydrogen and helium at its Hammaslahti project in Finland.

The company today (21st Oct) shared natural hydrogen concentrations reaching 1,000 parts per million and helium concentrations reaching up to 8.90% and stabilising at 7.10%.

80 Mile believes its progress to mark the first documented occurrence of hydrogen and helium detected flowing in the Hammaslahti area.

Eric Sondergaard, Managing Director of 80 Mile, described the news as a major development, adding that it reinforces the region’s potential.

“These results underscore the significant opportunities that lie ahead for Hammaslahti, and we remain fully committed to expanding our exploration efforts and delivering meaningful, long-term value for our shareholders.”

80 Mile’s Hammaslahti license contains over 600 drill holes. With the positive results, the company will now continue its exploration activities in the area. The company wants to intensify its gas sampling programme across Finland.

In September (2024), 80 Mile reported what it believes to be Finland’s first published occurrence of helium at its Outokumpu Belt project, with concentrations of up to 10.7%.

In addition to its helium findings, the company also reported findings of up to 46% geological, or white, hydrogen.

Geological hydrogen describes the gas when it is formed by natural processes within the Earth’s crust, where it can accumulate, as well as keep being produced, in underground reservoirs.
