Italy’s public-debt-to-GDP ratio was
134.8% at the end of 2023, a drop of 3.5 percentage points with
respect to 2022, Istat said on Tuesday.
The national debt stood at 2,868.411 billion euros at the end of
last year.
The debt level was slightly higher than the estimate of 134.6%
of GDP that had been released on September 23.
The national statistics agency said Italy’s deficit-to-GDP ratio
came in at 7.2%, down from 8.1% in 2022.
Istat said that it has sent the data to the European Commission,
applying the Protocol on the Excessive Deficit Procedure.
