Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, George Papanastasiou, Cypriot Minister of Energy; and Polly Loannou, Cyprus Ambassador to Egypt, visited Natural Gas production facilities and the Liquified Natural Gas Complex in Idku on the Mediterranean coast.

The two ministers also visited the Burullus Natural Gas processing facilities of the Nile West Delta Deep Marine concession, as well as Idku liquifaction and exporting complex of ELNG company, that is considered one of the main infrastructures, featured in Egypt, regionally in light of its role as an energy hub.

The two ministers began their inspection tour by visiting the facilities of the Rashid and Burullus natural gas production site, accompanied by leaders of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Shell International and Petronas, investment partners, and leaders of Rashid and Burullus Gas Company.

Additionally, the two ministers visited the main control room at the site and listened to an explanation from the work team about the advanced system and modern technology applied to manage operations.

During the tour, Badawi, Papanastasiou and his companions moved to the site of the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas Company (ELNG) complex in Edko, which is the largest LNG complex in the region and one of the most important components of Egypt’s infrastructure in the natural gas industry to support its role as a regional center for energy trading and commerce. It is located 50 km east of Alexandria.

The two ministers visited the complex’s control room, where they initially listened to safety instructions at the site. They also listened to a speech by Mohamed Elbahnasy, Chairman of the Egyptian LNG Company, about the importance of the complex, which is the largest in the region and is characterized by unique operational flexibility.
