The festival returns to Downtown Reykjavík this November.
Taking place on 7-9 November this year, Iceland Airwaves has welcomed six new artists to the programme for its 25th anniversary edition.
In line with the festival’s commitment to spotlighting local talent, three of the new acts join the 35+ Icelandic artists on the bill: superserious, who won ‘Best New Act’ at the 2022 Iceland Airwaves Awards, electro-pop artist Sykur, and psych-rock band Oyama.
Finnish musician Jaakko Eino Kalevi also joins the line-up, alongside Helsinki-based band Rosettes and synth-pop duo Modem. These new additions will play alongside the likes of Bar Italia, Overmono and Magdalena Bay.
Having now announced its full programme, Iceland Airwaves has also revealed the details for this year’s opening ceremony, taking place on the morning of 7 November at Grund, which will feature performances from Elín Hall and Hjálmar and welcome Halla Tómasdóttir, the President of Iceland.
“We are incredibly proud to be celebrating not only 25 years of Iceland Airwaves, but 25 years of playing a key part in the careers of some of the world’s most talented artists,” says Ísleifur Þórhallsson, Iceland Airwaves’ Festival Manager. “Over the years, we have seen many of our Airwaves alumni grow from strength to strength, often developing into some of the industry’s most acclaimed artists. It is an honour to continue to bring new talent to Reykjavík and share our beloved Icelandic community with the world.”
